ROBLOX Video Ads Now Available to All Advertisers

In a recent announcement on X, ROBLOX revealed that new video ads are now accessible to all advertisers, eliminating the need for custom-built 3D content. Previously available through a limited trial among select brands, these video ads will exclusively target users aged 13 and above.

The rollout of these video ads introduces several key features, including genre targeting, brand suitability, and an audience estimator. While brands can currently purchase ad space through a cost-per-completed views model, a specific launch date for this option is yet to be confirmed.

Stephanie Latham from ROBLOX emphasized the simplicity and scalability of the new video ads, aiming to facilitate brand engagement with Gen Z audiences. However, ad publishers must adhere to various requirements, including ID verification, unique visitor minimums, and compliance with ROBLOX’s community standards.

Despite the introduction of video ads, concerns persist among players regarding UGC issues. Notably, ROBLOX faced backlash in October 2023 following controversial decisions related to in-person work. While content-related updates may be crucial for retaining player interest, the proliferation of video ads could potentially disrupt gameplay experiences.

To address transparency concerns, ROBLOX ensures that users will readily distinguish between regular content and ad-related materials within the platform. With video ads now accessible to all advertisers, it is anticipated that the frequency and variety of ads within ROBLOX will increase, potentially altering the dynamics of the platform’s advertising ecosystem.
