ChatGPT Launches Desktop App for macOS Users, Refreshed UI Coming Soon
OpenAI introduces a desktop app for ChatGPT, catering initially to macOS users. During a recent event, OpenAI CTO Mira Murati announced the release alongside plans for a revamped user interface.
In the demonstration showcased by OpenAI, users accessed the ChatGPT desktop app in a compact window, enabling seamless interaction alongside other applications. By querying ChatGPT about on-screen content through typing or voice input, users received context-aware responses based on the visible elements.
The desktop app allows users to initiate queries using the Option + Space keyboard shortcut and facilitates discussion and analysis of screenshots within the app environment. Both free and paid users, including ChatGPT Plus subscribers, will gain access to the new app, with a staggered rollout commencing immediately.
Although currently exclusive to macOS, OpenAI aims to launch a Windows version of the app later in the year. ChatGPT is already available as a mobile app on iOS and Android platforms.
Accompanying the desktop app release is a preview of ChatGPT’s refreshed user interface for web users. The updated UI boasts minor enhancements to the homescreen and message layout, aimed at improving the naturalness and ease of interaction with ChatGPT.
OpenAI also unveiled its latest model, GTP-4o, available to all users at no cost. This advancement aligns with OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities and accessibility of its AI models for users worldwide.
As ChatGPT continues to evolve and expand its reach across different platforms, users can anticipate a seamless and intuitive conversational experience, supported by innovative features and user-centric design enhancements.
