Reddit has officially launched the 2023 version of the r/Place collaborative art project, and the platform is now filled with messages protesting Reddit and its CEO. Users can view the current iteration of the canvas in the r/Place subreddit or by following the command prompt at the top of the application.

In r/Place, individual users can place a single pixel on a large canvas every five minutes, and this includes invalidating other pixel placements if they wish to claim some territory. In the utopian version of the idea, r/Place becomes a constantly evolving art piece where users collaborate to draw any pixelated image in one giant collage.

However, the 2023 version of r/Place has turned into a large billboard for user complaints, following Reddit’s recent API changes that have affected many third-party applications, its contentious relationship with moderators, the sudden decision to remove all chat history with little warning earlier this year, and the announcement of the removal of Reddit Gold as we know it.

What is Reddir r/place?
The application launched on Reddit works by allowing Reddit users to place a pixel of any color on a designated area of the screen.

In r/place, individual users can place a single pixel color on a massive canvas at specified time intervals. Pixels of various colors can be used to create a flag, depict an important personality, a video game character, a logo, or an icon. When the event concludes, the giant canvas transforms into a work of art.
