iOS 17 Introduced! Here Are the Features and Innovations of iOS 17

Apple unveiled its new software lineup, including iOS 17, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2023) event. The anticipation was high for what iOS 17 would bring in terms of features and innovations. On June 5th, the next major update for iPhones was officially announced.

Here are the features of iOS 17:

StandBy – Use iPhone as a bedside clock
NameDrop – Share contact information between iPhones
Journal – A new journaling app
Stickers and check-in feature in the Messages app
Live stickers
Transcribe voice messages into text
Improved auto-complete functionality
Add messages during FaceTime calls
Pet albums in Photos
Item sharing with Find My “Siri” command instead of “Hey Siri”
New contact view on the lock screen
Offline Maps

The innovations brought by iOS 17 began with the introduction of new customizations to the lock screen. Apple added new features to the Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps in iOS 17. For example, in the Messages app, it is now possible to jump to the start of a conversation with a single tap, perform check-ins, and send stickers.

AirDrop, the easiest way to share files between Apple devices, introduces a new feature in iOS 17 called NameDrop. NameDrop allows users to easily share contact information by bringing their iPhones or iPhones and Apple Watches close together.

The Maps app now includes an offline feature, allowing users to download a specific area in advance and access step-by-step directions, estimated arrival times, find their location, and more when they don’t have internet access.

iOS 17 brings improvements to the keyboard, especially in English usage, where auto-sentence completion will work even better.

When iPhones are not actively in use, iOS 17 adds new functionality to the lock screen to make it more useful when placed on a desk or bedside table.

iOS 17 introduces a new iPhone lock screen interface that displays information such as weather, calendar events, and notifications in a smart home screen style. Apple calls this feature StandBy. It becomes visible when the iPhone is locked and held horizontally. To facilitate easy reading of the displayed information, dark backgrounds with brighter colored text are used.

The iOS 17 update introduces a new app called Journal. It allows users to record and track their activities and thoughts on a daily basis. The app analyzes user behavior, suggests possible topics you might want to write about, and helps you find nearby friends. The app integrates with text messaging and phone calls, but all data and journal analysis remain on the iPhone.

AirTag allows sharing an item with up to five people, enabling friends and family to track an item on Find My. Everyone in the group can see the item’s location, play a sound, and utilize the Precision Finding feature, which helps pinpoint the exact location of the shared AirTag when nearby. This also works with all other Find My network accessories.

AirPlay now works with supported TVs in hotels, allowing you to easily enjoy your favorite content on the TV while traveling. Apple announced that this feature will be available in select hotels by the end of the year.

iOS 17 brings new accessibility features. Apple introduced new iPhone accessibility features ahead of WWDC23. A new mode called Assistive Access simplifies the interface, allowing faster access to the camera, photos, music, calls, and Messages apps. Another new feature called Personal Voice is designed for individuals at risk of losing their speaking ability and allows the iPhone to generate a voice similar to the person’s own voice.
