Nintendo is gearing up to provide an extensive preview of Super Mario Bros. Wonder through an upcoming Direct presentation scheduled for Thursday, August 31st, at 10AM ET. This announcement comes a few weeks after Nintendo revealed that Charles Martinet, the iconic voice behind Mario, will be stepping away from the role to assume the position of Nintendo’s “Mario Ambassador.”

In regard to Martinet’s involvement in Wonder, Nintendo confirmed to Polygon that he will not be lending his voice to Mario in the game. The statement read, “While Charles is not involved in the game, we’re excited to honor his legacy and contributions, including looking ahead to what he’ll be doing as a Mario Ambassador.”

Wonder, which was announced in June, marks the first new Mario platformer following the launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury in 2021. Despite being the sole Mario game release of the year, the franchise has enjoyed significant success, highlighted by the financial achievements of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide and even garnered attention for Jack Black’s notable performance of “Peaches.”

Nintendo has assured that a special message from Martinet and CEO Shigeru Miyamoto will be included in the upcoming presentation. This Direct seems poised to feature that message along with a potential announcement about the new voice actor taking on the role of the beloved plumber in the gaming world.

The Wonder presentation on Thursday is expected to run for approximately 15 minutes, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder is scheduled to launch on the Switch on October 20th.
