Deadpool Creator’s Avengelyne Teams Up with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde for Movie Adaptation
According to a report from Deadline, Rob Liefeld’s Avengelyne is on the verge of receiving a long-awaited movie adaptation, with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde joining forces to bring the iconic character to life. While Wilde is set to direct the film, Robbie’s involvement as a producer has sparked speculation that she may also take on the titular role.
Originally introduced in 1995 by Liefeld and former Vampirella model Cathy Christian, Avengelyne follows the story of a fallen angel banished to Earth and stripped of her powers. Taking shelter in a local church, Avengelyne embarks on a mission to thwart demons plotting to unleash Hell on Earth.
Despite being part of the ’90s comic book bad-girl trend, Avengelyne stood out for her virtuous nature compared to her counterparts. However, the character’s publication history has been sporadic, with no new comics since 2011.
Liefeld’s attempts to bring Avengelyne to the screen date back to 2013, with Gina Carano initially attached. However, previous endeavors failed to materialize. Paramount acquired the rights in 2016, with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman onboard, but progress stalled once again.
Although the current Avengelyne project lacks a studio or streaming platform, Robbie and Wilde’s involvement is expected to attract attention, and negotiations are underway to secure a production deal. Fans eagerly await further developments as Avengelyne’s journey to cinematic adaptation progresses.
