The company is committed to keeping Call of Duty on PlayStation in Sony’s current marketing agreement with Activision. Hence, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer made the commitment in a written letter to PlayStation president Jim Ryan this year. Therefore, if Microsoft’s $68.7 billion deal is approved, Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation platforms for a while.

Spencer stated in January that they had secured Sony a signed agreement. The reason for this is to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation with at least a few more years. The reason for this is to keep the content parity beyond the current Sony contract.

It is not yet clear exactly how many more years Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation. However, for Bloomberg, Microsoft may keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for at least 2 more years. On the other hand, the deal could expire in 2024.

Moreover, Call of Duty fans are debating whether Microsoft will technically make the game Xbox exclusive or not. Microsoft’s latest statement does not explain what will happen after the deal expires. We think, the company is willing to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation for a longer period of time.

The Importance of Call of Duty Game

On the other hand, part of that commitment will be to allay fears of regulators who are analyzing Microsoft’s $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard. Furthermore, Sony and Microsoft lawyers discuss the importance of Call of Duty in documents submitted to the regulator of Brazil’s Administrative Council of Economic Defense (CADE). However, it is clearly seen that this situation will create a point of disagreement.

The Rival of Call of Duty Game

Sony thinks it will be difficult for other developers to create a franchise to rival Activision’s Call of Duty. In addition, Sony claims that Call of Duty stands out as a game category on its own. Furthermore, Microsoft argues that it is not as important as its rival reveals.

On the other hand, fears over Xbox exclusivity for Call of Duty have also increased after Microsoft bought Bethesda last year. Microsoft has pledged to maintain existing contract deals with Sony for the Deathloop on PlayStation. However, Redfall and Starfield continued to make it Xbox and PC exclusive.

Also, Call of Duty competition fears played a large part in the move by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The reason behind it to more closely investigate Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal. The CMA plans to appoint an independent panel to determine whether Microsoft’s control over games such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft will be harmful for competitors.

The Call of Duty war between Xbox and PlayStation has existed for as long as the franchise has been around. After Xbox became the traditional home of Call of Duty, Sony secured a deal for extra Call of Duty downloadable content for PlayStation fans in 2015. As Microsoft and Sony lawyers continue to argue about Call of Duty, we think this battle will certainly continue.
