Despite significant anticipation, the launch of Broken Roads, a story-rich post-apocalyptic RPG set in Australia, has been met with mixed reviews and teething issues. Drop Bear Bytes, the developer of Broken Roads, recently acknowledged falling short of player expectations in some key areas and committed to ongoing efforts to polish the game.

In a candid post on Twitter, the developer admitted to the game’s shortcomings and outlined a roadmap detailing forthcoming changes and improvements. These include manual leveling for companions, enhancements to random encounters, localization fixes, quest logic adjustments, additional animations and gestures, and more. Subsequent updates will introduce custom keybinds, further development of the last chapter, expanded dialogue options, increased companion interactions, and more impactful gear.

The first quality-of-life update is scheduled for April 19, with a more substantial update slated for May. Despite the developer’s proactive response to feedback, Broken Roads currently holds a “Mixed” review rating on Steam, with players expressing disappointment alongside appreciation for the developer’s efforts.

One player, acknowledging the evident dedication put into the project, highlighted various issues ranging from annoyance to bugs and uninspiring game design. While Broken Roads offers around twenty hours of gameplay in its main story and boasts high replayability due to its classless structure, the success of the game hinges on the developer’s ability to swiftly address these concerns.

Drop Bear Bytes had previously announced a significant delay to ensure a higher quality standard for the game. As they continue to work on improving Broken Roads, players remain hopeful that the developer’s commitment to addressing feedback will result in a more satisfying gaming experience.
