However, it seems that at least on Steam, publishing these AI-generated games is proving to be a bit challenging. Reports emerged recently that Valve had rejected games featuring art and other content generated by artificial intelligence. Over the weekend, the company finally issued a statement to address the situation.

Valve’s concern is copyright issues, not AI Valve spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle stated that the company is not trying to prevent the use of artificial intelligence on Steam. Aitchison Boyle explained that the confusion stemmed from Valve’s existing copyright rules. The company is still unclear on how to integrate the use of AI into its current review processes.

Aitchison Boyle hinted that most of the problems they encountered were related to copyright issues: “We welcome and encourage innovations. It is inevitable that AI technology will create new and exciting experiences in games. Developers can utilize these AI technologies in their work with appropriate commercial licenses, but they cannot violate existing copyright laws.”
