Samsung Enters the World of Artificial Intelligence!

According to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung is collaborating with Naver to create a productivity-focused AI platform similar to ChatGPT. However, unlike ChatGPT, the AI tool is said to be intended for internal use by Samsung employees.

Samsung recently learned the dangers of using ChatGPT in a corporate setting the hard way. When several employees attempted to utilize the tool to streamline their work by sharing information and code snippets with the productive AI, they were unaware that those pieces would become part of ChatGPT and be stored on remote servers beyond Samsung’s control. As a result, fragments of the company’s sensitive semiconductor-related information were leaked through ChatGPT.

Since then, Samsung has banned its employees from using ChatGPT. However, reports suggest that the company plans to support the idea of leveraging the power of productivity-focused AI to assist its workforce. The partnership with Naver Corp. will solely focus on jointly developing an artificial intelligence platform specifically for Samsung’s corporate users.

Samsung’s productivity-focused AI will not be open like ChatGPT but rather exclusive to its employees within the Device Solutions Division. In the future, following field testing, the tool could become available to employees in other Samsung divisions responsible for devices such as smartphones and home appliances, like the Device eXperience division.

Due to Samsung’s in-house nature, the company’s AI will remain on its servers and be tailored to the needs of its employees, providing more assistance than ChatGPT. For instance, it is assumed that Samsung will share its sensitive semiconductor data with Naver, who will then apply that information to the productivity-focused AI. This sharing will enable Samsung employees to harness the true potential of AI without concerns about the leakage of semiconductor-related source code.

Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, the in-house AI chatbot jointly developed by Samsung and Naver is expected to have a much better understanding of the Korean language compared to other productivity-focused AIs.
