As you may know, the Apple A17 Pro chip boasts the company’s first ray tracing-supported mobile graphics chip. With 6 CPU cores and 6 GPU cores, this chip is set to usher in a new era in mobile gaming for Apple. During the event, Apple announced that popular titles like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Death Stranding would be coming to iPhone 15 Pro devices, making a significant impact in the gaming industry.

Apple’s recent announcement, however, is set to spark discussions and excitement among gamers. In an interview with IGN, Apple executives Jeremy Sandmel and Tim Millet shared vital information regarding the gaming capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro. According to them, both the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support 4K 60fps video output via USB-C, and these devices will make high-resolution gaming possible through Apple’s MetalFX scaling technology. Furthermore, the executives reassured gamers that they need not worry about high power consumption, as Apple’s hardware optimizations, tools like MetalFX provided to developers, and the developers’ focus on a single system will enable successful optimizations.

iPhone 15 Pro Set to Become the World’s Best Console During the same interview, IGN writer Taylor Jones asked which next-gen console the iPhone 15 Pro is closer to in terms of performance. In response, Platform Architecture VP Tim Millet clarified that while the iPhone 15 Pro doesn’t directly compete with consoles, it offers developers tools similar to those provided by next-gen consoles. Millet emphasized Apple’s dedication to developers and gaming.

On the other hand, Apple’s Senior Director of GPU Software, Jeremy Sandmel, provided a slightly different perspective. Sandmel highlighted that with the iPhone 15 Pro, users can take photos, create memories, and play console-quality games on a single device. He went on to claim that the best gaming console is the one you have with you, suggesting that the iPhone 15 Pro will be the ultimate gaming console. While Apple’s A17 Pro chip may not directly compete with the Xbox Series or PS5, Apple seems determined to bring console-quality games to the iPhone.
