Take-Two Interactive Announces Workforce Layoffs and Game Cancellations Ahead of GTA 6 Launch

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, has revealed plans to lay off 5% of its workforce and cancel some of its games. This decision, aimed at saving approximately $165 million annually, has already been approved by the company’s board and is part of a broader effort to enhance profit margins.

Despite the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025, expected to generate substantial revenue, Take-Two Interactive is implementing cost-saving measures. Grand Theft Auto 5, its predecessor, achieved record-breaking sales of $1 billion within days of its launch.

With 11,580 full-time employees worldwide as of March 2023, Take-Two Interactive anticipates charges of $160 million to $200 million associated with the restructuring plan. This includes expenses related to game cancellations, estimated at $120 million to $140 million.

The company aims to finalize these changes by the end of 2024 as it prepares for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. Despite the strategic adjustments, anticipation remains high for the highly awaited game’s release and its potential impact on the gaming industry.
