According to the Vice President of Camera Software Engineering at Apple, the company has achieved a balance with 5x zoom. Apple believes that the best experience for 10x zoom can be achieved with the use of a tripod and that handheld stabilization may not be very practical.

Maxime Veron, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Apple, also mentions that the 5x lens in the iPhone 15 Pro Max opens up to f/2.8, allowing for excellent light management. The lower aperture value enables the camera sensor to capture more light.
