The Last of Us Part II Remastered Hits PS5

PlayStation and Naughty Dog have announced the arrival of The Last of Us Part II Remastered, exclusively for PS5, set to release on January 19, 2024. The remastered edition promises enhanced graphics, featuring native 4K output in Fidelity Mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K in Performance Mode, and an Unlocked Framerate option for TVs supporting VRR. The visual improvements extend to increased texture resolution, enhanced shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more.

A standout addition to the remastered version is the introduction of a new roguelike mode called “No Return.” This survival mode aims to provide players with a unique and challenging experience through randomized encounters. The mode includes various playable characters, some debuting in The Last of Us franchise for the first time, each with distinctive traits catering to different playstyles. Players can customize their runs, unlock characters and skins, and compete on a global leaderboard through the Daily Run mode.

For fans of the playable guitar feature, the remaster introduces a Free Play mode, allowing players to explore strumming across a range of unlockable instruments, using audio FX pedals to modulate performance, and playing as different characters in various in-game locations.

Adding an extra layer to the narrative, The Last of Us Part II Remastered includes a new set of Lost Levels, providing players with playable sequences that were initially cut from the game. These segments offer early-development slices, complemented by embedded developer commentary to provide richer context.

Director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors such as Troy Baker (Joel), Ashley Johnson (Ellie), and Laura Bailey (Abby) contribute newly recorded director’s commentary to the entire game’s cutscenes.
