The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Gets Revamped with Path Tracing. How Does It Look?
Reviving classic computer games with RTX Remix, which allows easy modding of games, was introduced in September 2022. Now, one of the greatest games of all time, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has received a new Path Tracing mod. How does The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim look with Ray Tracing and Path Tracing?

For those unfamiliar, Path Tracing follows the path of light sources in games and is a more advanced form of ray tracing. Currently, it is only used in Cyberpunk 2077, and activating it without DLSS requires a minimum GPU like RTX 4080 or 4090. However, today, renowned modder Pascal Gilcher, also known as Marty McFly, showcased an impressive Path Tracing solution applied to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
In the shared video, an almost 12-year-old game like Skyrim appears stunning with improved lighting and shadow effects. Furthermore, Path Tracing seems to run surprisingly smoothly. The modder’s approach is not very different from RTX Remix, but it has been scaled to work with almost every game. It even works with newer games like Grand Theft Auto V (DX11) and Control (DX12). The modder has not provided any links to download the new Skyrim mod, but plans to spend more time refining the path tracing solution.
