Revealed: The Culprit Behind Slow Performance of the Latest PC Games

Recently released games have been experiencing worse performance, slowdowns, and more frequent freezing on PC due to several new issues encountered during the development process by game studios.

According to developers, the main reasons behind this are the multitude of PC configurations among players and the challenges of optimizing Unreal Engine 4, which causes problems for most studios. Mark Whitten, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Unity Create, stated, “The incredible variety of PC configurations that games are played on is definitely causing unexpected issues.” The expert also noted that due to such a large number of configurations, testers are unable to fully test the project’s performance in every possible way.

Unreal Engine 4 Excessive CPU Usage On the other hand, Hideyuki Miyashita, a programmer at Hi-Fi Rush, explained that Unreal Engine 4 heavily utilizes the CPU during gameplay for loading characters and user interfaces. This leads to constant delays and slowdowns in the game. Studios also highlight the often limited time and funding available to deliver a perfect game by the publisher’s set release date.

In April, PC users expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the release of the new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game. Players complained about poor optimization of the project. In fact, one user pointed out that the game was running at a mere 30 frames per second (FPS) even on the top-of-the-line RTX 4080 graphics card.
