Former CSGO Pro Player Gains Access to CS 2 Beta on VAC Banned Account

Former professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) player, Hovik ‘KQLY’ Tovmassian, was granted access to the limited beta for Counter-Strike 2, despite having a VAC-banned account. KQLY, who played for Titan and LDLC teams in Europe before his ban in 2014, revealed on Twitter that he gained access to Counter-Strike 2 on the same account he used for competitive play.

While players around the world are struggling to secure an invite to the closed beta for Counter-Strike 2, Valve has explained that players are selected based on multiple factors, including recent playtime, trust factor, and Steam account standings. According to Ido Magal, the project lead for CS:GO, players who have attended a CS:GO Major or are on teams featured in Valve’s Regional Standings have also been selected for the beta.

KQLY participated in three Majors before his ban, but has not competed professionally since 2019 and currently works in the rental car business. Despite his past transgressions, his inclusion in the beta has stirred controversy among the CSGO community, which is still trying to gain access to the new game through various means.
