EA’s Closure of Apex Legends UK QA Team Leaves Employees in Limbo
EA’s decision to shut down the Apex Legends UK QA team has left approximately 50 individuals in a state of uncertainty. Sources, speaking anonymously to Insider Gaming, revealed that employees were informed during a ‘Business Update’ Zoom call that their contracts would not be renewed. Interestingly, managers and project leads were reportedly unaware of this development until after the call, learning about it from affected team members.
Established in 2022, the UK team had been responsible for QA on Apex Legends from Season 16 onwards. Despite their performance meeting internal targets and goals, the decision not to renew contracts was attributed to a “restructuring of the business.” Notably, this action does not appear related to the earlier layoff of 670 EA employees in late February.
The sudden announcement has left affected individuals scrambling to secure new employment, with some contracts set to expire within weeks. This turn of events came as a surprise to many, with one source expressing that everything seemed on track for a routine renewal to support the game’s future plans.
In March 2024, EA CEO Andrew Wilson highlighted Apex Legends’ large player community, numbering “hundreds of millions,” and hinted at expansions beyond the traditional battle royale genre later in the year.
