Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Hits Major Milestone with 1 Million Sales

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, the latest addition to the Deep Rock Galactic franchise, continues to carve out its success, reaching an impressive milestone of 1 million copies sold since its early access launch on Steam in February. This achievement follows the game’s rapid sales pace, having reached 500,000 copies within just a week of release—a feat that developer Funday Games described as surpassing their “wildest imagination.”

Upcoming Content Update and Future Plans

The team at Funday Games is gearing up for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor’s first significant content update scheduled for March 20. This update will introduce players to a new biome, the Salt Pits, enhancing the gameplay experience by allowing players to utilize the environment strategically against enemy swarms. Additionally, a fresh enemy type, the Q’ronar Younglings, will make their debut, although the previously announced Huuli Hoarders will not be included in this update.

Funday Games anticipates that Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor will remain in early access for 6-12 months. During this period, the studio plans to roll out additional game modes, biomes, bosses, and items. Among the planned features are Biome Mutators, which will introduce new challenges, and a significant overhaul of the mining robot Bosco. These updates aim to integrate Bosco more deeply into the gameplay by offering unique upgrades and enabling “Bosco-builds.”

A Winning Formula and Franchise Expansion

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor combines the original game’s dwarves-in-space theme and class-based shooting with the roguelite elements popularized by auto-shooter Vampire Survivors. This innovative blend has proven to be a winning formula for Funday Games, contributing to the franchise’s current high point. Earlier in the year, Ghost Ship Games, the original Deep Rock Galactic developer, reported that the base game sold over 2.5 million copies in 2023 alone, bringing its total sales to more than 8 million.

Furthermore, Ghost Ship Games is developing another spin-off, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core. This new title will incorporate roguelite mechanics into the original game’s foundational gameplay, challenging players to navigate procedurally generated missions while gathering resources and upgrades. A release date for Rogue Core has not been announced yet.

As Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor continues its successful journey through early access, and with more exciting content on the horizon, the franchise’s expansion and innovation show no signs of slowing down. Fans and new players alike have much to look forward to as Funday Games and Ghost Ship Games continue to enrich the Deep Rock Galactic universe.
