]]> Meta, one of the leading tech companies, has recently made an interesting move by open sourcing its artificial intelligence project that turns drawings into animations. The project was initially released as a demo in 2021 by Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team.

The project, called Animated Drawings, uses object detection models, pose estimation models, and image-processing-based segmentation methods to capture the digital version of your drawing. It then deforms and animates the image using traditional computer graphics techniques. During the demo, Meta used 1.6 million different user drawings to improve the model, making the project even more powerful. Moreover, despite initially saying that the project would only work with human figure drawings, it appears that the project can now work with different drawings, such as logos, anime characters, and even fish.
