The competition board, which first initiated a preliminary inquiry in February, has deemed the information, documents, and findings obtained through discussions as serious and sufficient to determine whether the law has been violated. Accordingly, a decision has been made to launch an investigation into the economic entity consisting of these companies regarding the violation of the law.

The Competition Authority’s statement on its website reads as follows:

“The preliminary inquiry conducted on allegations that the economic entity consisting of Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google International LLC, Google Ireland Limited, and Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd. violated Article 6 of Law No. 4054 with their contextualization and self-preferential behaviors in online display advertising and ad technology services has been concluded by the Competition Board.

After deliberating on the information, documents, and findings obtained during the preliminary inquiry at its meeting on May 18, 2023, the Competition Board has found the findings to be serious and sufficient to determine whether Article 6 of Law No. 4054 has been violated. As a result, an investigation has been initiated into the economic entity consisting of Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google International LLC, Google Ireland Limited, and Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd. under decision number 23-23/432-M.”
