The ruling by the U.S. District Judge indicates that the FTC has not provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate a likelihood of success in proving that the merger would harm competition. The FTC has the option to file an appeal by July 14.

The impact of the court’s decision on a global scale is still uncertain. Microsoft had already received clearance for the deal in over 35 countries prior to the FTC ruling.

The completion of the acquisition has a final deadline of July 18. Microsoft’s President, Brad Smith, expressed his hope for a timely resolution in other jurisdictions and emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing regulatory concerns.

Xbox Head, Phil Spencer, stated that the evidence presented during the case supports the belief that the Activision Blizzard deal is beneficial for the industry and that the claims made by the FTC regarding console switching, multi-game subscription services, and the cloud do not accurately reflect the gaming market’s realities. He also highlighted the company’s efforts to expand player access and choice through various agreements.
